Community Outreach

The team at AScIS takes pride in the community in which we work and live. We are fortunate to live in such a dynamic area—rich in history, culture, economic opportunities and natural resources—and in response to these blessings seek to share our fortune through the support of causes that benefit others both locally and nationally. A key way we achieve this goal is through corporate giving programs that provide cash donations, company products and employee volunteers.

MDA Lock-Up Fundraiser
AScIS President & CEO, Aneil Kumar, participated in the MDA Lock-Up event to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This event helps MDA provide medical equipment, clinic visits, support groups and a magical week of MDA Summer Camp for the families serviced by the Association in our local area. All donations received allow MDA to continue research into the cause and the possible cure of the 43 neuromuscular diseases they cover.

Assisi House
Assisi House was established as a ministry project by concerned citizens to provide a nondenominational, supervised residential facility for adults with mild to moderate mental challenges. Assisi House was designed to provide its residents with a family-oriented environment in a comfortable home setting. AScIS is currently providing general consulting as a LEED AP on this project to include design charrette facilitation, credit interpretation and credit applications toward gaining LEED certification.

Habitat for Humanity
In June 2008 Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (Habitat SHR) partnered with the city of Suffolk, local builders, donors and volunteers to build 16 Habitat for Humanity Homes in the northern part of the city. This project was extended over five days where all 16 houses were constructed to EarthCraft standards. AScIS participated in this project, not only by building one of the 16 homes, but we also took the time to educate local builders and the various trades involved in the process of home performance testing.

Beach Reach for Joplin
Following the May 2011 tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo., efforts around the country sprung up through churches and other local organizations to help the people of the hard-hit town begin a path to recovery and healing. AScIS stepped in to support one such effort in the Virginia Beach area where the company is based. Through AScIS’s support, Beach Reach for Joplin was able to collect more than 1,500 pounds of food, water and much-needed supplies and ship them to Joplin where they were used to aid in that recovery.
